In this work, Cath Barcan is looking for a strange space that is both convincing and intimate, but in which, as in a still life, the sense of the subject having been placed is apparent. The people in the images agreed to be photographed whilst visiting the Blue Mountains Cultural Centre. Photographed separately, but displayed collectively, they depict the exchange that takes place between the artist, the artwork, and the viewer, and the potential of all the unknown conversations and connections with other humans that might be possible each day.
